Mary Lee Miles Branum Schales, 87, of Rockport, died Sunday, November 15, 2009 in her home with family by her side.

Born July 8, 1922 in Kingston, Tennessee to Cleveland and Nettie Lee Snow Miles, she married Luther Branum in 1938 and together they had nine children. They settled in Malvern in 1953. Over the next 20 years she waitressed at various diners before purchasing her own, the Frosty Freeze, which was a popular drive-in during the 60's. She remarried in 1965 to a wonderful man, father, and step-father, Jake Schales. She dedicated her life to her children, loved her country and those who serve. She was very proud of her Cherokee Indian heritage. She was happiest when she had her family together and was needed by them. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten, by her family and friends.

She attended Third Baptist Church and was a member of the Branum Hunting Club, to which she always kept the camp supplied with a pot of her brown beans and skillet cornbread.

She was welcomed into Heaven by those who predeceased her: her parents; an infant brother; her husband of 38 years, Jake E. Schales; a son, Bobby G. Branum; special in-laws Betty Heard Branum and Ricky Taylor.

She is survived by one brother, William "Bill" Miles and wife, Edith, of Rockport; two sons, Eugene (Linda) Branum of Estill Springs, TN; and Arnold (Wanda) Branum of Malvern; seven daughters, Dorothy Sealy of Rockport; Vivian (Arnis) Hickman of Gifford; Barbara (Ray) Bailey of Malvern; Martha (Charles) Huggins, of Cordova, TN; Faye Taylor of Malvern; Zola (Ronnie) Brandon of Malvern; and Deloris Schales (Chris) Allen of Benton; three step-sons, Edward, Don, and Fred Schales, all of Donaldson; seventeen grandchildren, Lana Branum Blankenship, Cleve, and Cody Branum; Lynne Sealy Drennan, Carl Sealy, Paula Sealy Cook; Brett Cheatham, Angela Cheatham Jones; Heather Branum Kindy, Brian Branum; Peter, and Hannah Huggins; Brad Taylor; Felice Brandon Story, Bobby Brandon and Lee Brandon; and Amber Daniells Bolin; 25 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
