On May 29, 2003 William Clements McMullen, a longtime San Antonio resident, passed away in Gig Harbor, WA, while temporarily there under hospice care for cancer. He was born in 1928 in the Philippine Islands, where his father was stationed with the Army Air Corps. He began his long association with San Antonio when his father was assigned to the San Antonio Air Depot at Duncan Field in 1938. He attended elementary school at St. Martin's Hall (Our Lady of the Lake), and high school at Texas Military Institute and Alamo Heights High School. He went to college at St. Mary's Universary, University of Omaha and Texas A&I. After Air Force pilot training, he was stationed at Madison, WI, and subsequently assigned to Chitose Air Base, Japan. In 1956, he returned to San Antonio as a civil service employee at Kelly AFB and flew with the 433rd Military Airlift Wing. He served about 18 years in the Air Force leaving as a Major. During most of his adult life he was active in starting up small businesses in San Antonio. He was a leader in the Unity Church of San Antonio, and was a Life Member of the Order of Daedalians. McMullen was the son of Major General Clements McMullen, longtime commander of Kelly AFB. He is survived by one son, Technical Sergeant Daryn C. McMullen in the Air Force at Langly AFB, VA; two brothers and two grandsons. Funeral Services will be held at the Angelus Funeral Home, 1119 N. St. Mary's St. on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Arrangements with the Angelus Funeral Home.
