Berton Edward Owens Sr., 64, of the 3300 block of Old Kirkwood Drive, died March 22, 1993, in his home.
He was the husband of Winifred W. Owens and the son of Dorothy B. Owens of Virginia Beach and the late Rev. John F. Owens. Mr. Owens was born in Richmond and lived most of his life in the Tidewater area. He retired from the Public Works Center in Norfolk as the civilian personnel officer. He later worked as a consultant with A & L Associates. He was a member of Foundry United Methodist Church and the Foundry Forum Sunday School Class.
Mr. Owens is survived by three sons, Berton E. Owens Jr. of Hampton, Franklin R. Owens and Joseph C. Owens, both of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Candace O. Clark of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Evelyn O. Stickley of Lynchburg and Eleanor O. Hill of Haddonfield, N.J.; five grandchildren, Berton E. Owens III, Rebecca Owens, Joseph C. Owens Jr., Nicole Clark and Anthony A. Clark Jr.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Edward Clark.
A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. James B. Grimmer. Burial will be in Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Cemetery, Virginia Beach.
