Samuel Blake, 83, of Andover, died at his home in Gilmanton, N.H.

Mr. Blake was born the son of the late, Francis and Belle (McCalip) Blake, in Shawnee, Okla. on April 1, 1927. Samuel settled in Andover, where he resided for 25 years before moving to Lawrence.

Two years ago he moved to Gilmanton, N.H. to be closer to his family.

He served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Army, and the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He earned the Good Conduct Medal as well as the National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He went on to work as an engineer and circuit board designer for General Electric, overseas, working in Japan, Okinawa and the Philippines.

Sam was always smiling, never had an unkind word, and nobody was a stranger to him. He loved singing, and sang with the Salem Senior Singers, the Barber Shop Harmony in Haverhill. He also sang with the Merrimack Valley Choral Arts Society. Sam loved the Lord and we know he is resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.

Samuel leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Delia C. (Bolduc) Blake. He also leaves his loving children, Frank and Cindy Blake of Gilmanton, N.H. and Paul and Leslie Blake of Barnstead, N.H.; six cherished grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; his caring siblings, Robert Blake of Amity,AR, Verle Dayhoff of Madill, Okla., Thelma Weber of MCcomb, Mo., and Jean Bledsoe of Glenwood, Ariz. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Sam was predeceased by his son, Michael Blake and his grandson, Jared Blake
