The injury left him a cripple for the rest of his life. Jesse returned home to Jasper County, GA after the war, and on September 26, 1865, Jesse married his sweetheart, Mary Gastin Fish. They had a large family of ten children, and he died on December 28, 1904 at Lenox, Cook County, GA.
After the death of his first wife, Martha in 1895, Jesse married again on August 2, 1897 to Barbara Ann Braziel (1863-1950). At the time of their marriage Barbara had an illegitimate son by the name of Walter. Jesse adopted the boy and thereafter he used the name, Walter Cue Annis (1890-1944).
Jesse and Barbara also had a daughter, Katie Lee Annis born in 1898.
