Mary Ellen was born Feb. 1847, in Ohio, daughter of Valentine Knight and his wife, name unknown, both also born in that state. She died Aug. 30, 1934, aged about 87 years at the home of her daughter, Martha Margaret Otis, at 3832 Tyler Street, Tacoma, Wash., and was buried there on Aug. 31, 1934, in Mountain View Memorial Park.
On Oct. 26, 1867 Mary Ellen married Thomas Benton DeLong in Bethel Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio. Thomas was born in Guernsey Co., Ohio, in 1843, son of Simpson DeLong and Martha DeLong, both born in that state. He died Dec. 31, 1899 at Barron, Barron Co., Wis., aged about 56 years and was buried there in Wayside Cemetery. His military style gravestone is inscribed "T. B. Delong Co. D. 77 Ohio Inf."
Their five children were: Martha Margaret, b. 17 Sep 1868 in Kansas; Mary E., b. 12 May 1870 in Ohio; Eva Belle, b. 19 Apr 1872 in Ohio; Rachel V., b. 6 Mar 1877 in Wis.; & Thomas Dow, b. 12 Jul 1884 at Turtle Lake, Wis.
