Miss Mary Francis Stewart
Miss Mary Francis Stewart, 76, Beaver Dam died at 12:25 a.m., Thursday, April 10 at the Ohio County Hospital, Hartford, where she had been a patient for about six weeks.
She was born March 9, 1893 in Ohio County and was the daughter of the late Virgil Marion and Maude Tilford Stewart.
Miss Mary was one of Kentucky's most accomplished musicians, was a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and studied at the Royal College of Music in London, England and the Fountainebleu in Paris, France. She was head of the Normal Department in Piano at Louisville Conservatory and organist and choir director at Warren Memorial Presbyterian Church in Louisville for 15 years. She also had served as pianist at the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville and taught at the School for the Blind in Louisville. Miss Mary had given private lessons to several hundred students and carried a full schedule until she entered the hospital.
Miss Mary was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
The only survivors are cousins including Mrs. Mary Dale and Grover C. Stewart, Beaver Dam.
Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at the Beaver Dam Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Glen Armstrong. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith Dale, Tommy Knight, Kenny Stewart, Terry Tichenor, C.B. Embry, Jr., Ronnie Givens, and Joe Westerfield.
