Bettye Jo Nelson Bell, 78, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by her children and the caring staff of Cambridge Health & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Brother Brian Upchurch officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bettye was born in Mt. Calm, Texas, to the late John David Boyd and Naomi (Hendrick) Nelson. She was raised in Mexia but spent the majority of her adult life in Houston. She worked predominately in the dental profession; however, while in Mexia, she owned a books & record store and managed the Mexia Country Club. Bettye's love for her Lord was evident in her life. Spending time with her family was very precious to her and Christmas was her favorite time of the year. Her favorite hobbies were bowling, reading, music and theater.

She was preceded in death by a son, David O. Chambers; and brothers, Barton and Arndel Nelson.

Survivors include sons, Gary Lynn Killingsworth and wife, Rosie, of Richmond and James Michael Killingsworth, partner Cris Nerland and Buster of Houston; daughter, Donna K. Hatfield and husband, Ronnie, of Pursley; grandchildren, Lynzee and Scott Brown, Shelby and Aaron Hogue, Hayden Hatfield and fiancée, Amber Lehman, James David Killingsworth, Veronica Lopez, Kristi and Jerod Witten, and Keri and Josh Pearson; and seven great-grandchildren.
