Archie E. Spain, 71, of Zillah, died this morning in St. Elizabeth Hospital. Mr. Spain was born in Dot, Washington, in the Horse Heaven area, and grew up in Yakima. He married Helen Peace in 1945. They lived in Woodland, Washington, for several years, later moving to Vancouver, Washington.

He was a carpenter and logger. Following his retirement in 1968, they moved to Arizona, coming to Zillah two years ago. He served in the U. S. Army in World War II in the Africa and Italy campaigns. He was a life member of the Rifleman's Association and attended the Assembly of God Church in Granger.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Miss Anita Grace Spain of Zillah; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Davis of Sunnyside; one nephew and two nieces whom the couple raised, Mr. Alva Clees of Yakima, Mrs. Mary Chase of Longview and Mrs. Margaret O'Dell of Vancouver, Washington.
