Leonard F. Jones of Walterville, Oregon, died August 20th of age-related causes. He was 86.

He was born May 7, 1916, in Clapham, Bedfordshire, England to Beatrice (Florence) May Arnold. Florence married Willie Williamson in October 1917, and was emigrated to Canada on military transport with his parents where his two siblings Serapta Marsadies (Sadie) Williamson (D1982) and Willie Dallas Williamson Jones (D1964) were born in Rumsey, Starland, Alberta, Canada. It was following Florence's marriage to Willie that Leonard assumed the Williamson surname.

In January of 1936, his father died (D1926) and his mother married James M. Jones (D1955) in December 1936.

Leonard and his brother Dallas used the surname Jones, however there is no record of Sadie using Jones. (Confirmation of formal adoption papers have not been found.) His mother Florence and James Jones added two siblings to their family; May and Eve.

Leonard Jones attended and graduated from Grant High School in Portland, Oregon, and served in the Navy for six years in the South Pacific; including World War II. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad in North Portland for 40 years until his retirement in 1978.

He was married twice. His first wife he married as a "war bride." Carolyn J. Novello (D1969) known to everyone as "Ginger" was a feisty Italian from New Jersey who enjoyed sharing her cooking with family, and they grew prize winning bearded iris together at the Lake Oswego home (just east of Marylhurst) they built until her unexpected death in 1969. They had no children.

His second wife was Virginia ("Adele") Rynearson (D2018) whom he married in 1970, and later adopted her children Michele and Peggy.

He was a long time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lents Masonic Lodge No. 156, Al Kador Shrine, and Scottish Rite Masons. He also attended Marcola Christian Church and McKenzie Valley Presbyterian Church in Walterville.

Survivors include his second wife Adele (D2018); two adopted daughters, Michele Ross of Sisters and Peggy Hawkins (D2019) of Portland; two sisters, May (Jones) Riback (D2009) of Molalla, Oregon, Eve (Jones) Collais (D2008) of Juneau, Alaska, and three nieces, Rene, Shelly and Becky.

England's Eugene Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements, and he is buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

Our Uncle Leonard is fondly remembered for his sweet nature to all of his nieces and is dearly missed.
