U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Union College, in 1808, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Johnstown, New York. He was Johnstown town clerk, (1814, 16-17), Montgomery County Supervisor, (1818-22, 26-29) and a member of the New York State Assembly, in 1822. In 1823, he was elected as an Adams-Clay Republican to the Eighteenth Congress, serving until 1825. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he practiced law, district attorney of Fulton County, (1840-46) and justice of the peace of Johnstown, in 1853.
