Anton Zumpfe was born in Krucemberk, Kraj Caslav, Okres Chotebor, Czechoslovakia, Europe, December 6, 1866. In his earlier years he did blacksmithing for fifteen years. He later farmed, living on the same place for thirty-eight years.

May 15, 1893, he was married to Mary Hajek and to this union were born five sons, Frank, Joseph, Edward, Adolph and Anton, all of the Friend locality. A daughter was also born to them, but she preceded her parents in death. There also survive 10 grandchildren, a brother, John, and a sister, Mrs. Barbara Kucera of Dorchester. His wife died four years ago and his brothers Edward and Frank and sister Mr. Urban, also preceded him in death. He was a long time member and an officer of ZCBJ lodge Columbus No. 133.

The funeral services were held from his old home place Tuesday afternoon, a large concourse of people attending. Interment was in the cemetery south of town. C. Smrha delivered the eulogy and the Wilber quartet sang.
