Mrs. Betsey Sheldon of Millards Prairie Dies at Age of 86 Years

Mrs. Betsey Sheldon died at her home on Millard's Prairie Saturday, Feb. 2, at the age of 86 years. She had been ill for some. The funeral services were held in the Millard's Prairie church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S. W. Pollard. The burden of his impressive sermon was taken from the Psalms. "I shall be satisfied when I awake with they likeness." S. Forbes assisted in the first part of the services. The singing was by the choir of the Plymouth Congregational church. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the cemetery close by, in the presence of a large assembly of sympathizing kindred and friends.

Betsey Niles was born in Conneaut, Ohio, Jan 7, 1821. She was married to George Sheldon Feb. 25, 1842. To Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon were born six children, five of whom are living, namely George and Lewis on the old homesteads, and Charles in Elroy; Mrs. Robt. Mutch of Plymouth and Mrs. Thomas Allen of Hustler. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon settled on Millards Prairie in 1855 at a time when settlers were few and a good ways between and they shared in all the toils and hardships incident to pioneer life.

Mrs. Sheldon was one who was ever held in high esteem and affection in her home life, and by her large circle of neighbors and friends from the early days on Millards Prairie, during a period of over 61 years. She kept a social board and gave a blithe cordial welcome to all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance and was always ready to --Unreadable-- minister aid and comfort in times of sickness among her neighbors and friends, till the weight of years and failing health intervened and finally closed her life on earth.

Sweet rest to our mother who's passed away, Released from affliction and pain; In the good Shepherd's cane in the realms of day, Where we all hope to meet her again.
