DAVENPORT - Florence "Elaine" Bates, 89, a resident of Davenport, died Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Crest Health Care Center, Davenport. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Florence Elaine Bates was born on February 16, 1921, in Davenport, a daughter of H. George and Norma (Fleming) Schloemer. She was united in marriage to Robert Bates on September 19, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Elaine was primarily a homemaker, raising her two children. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Elaine is survived by her son, Robert (Sue) Bates, Wheeling, Ill.; a grandson, Steve (Rachael) Dooley and their daughter, Mason, Davenport; granddaughters, Rachel (Chris) Byrd, South Elgin, Ill., Becky (Adam) Obert, Grayslake, Ill., and Shannon (Josh) Warner, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Marjorie Roche, Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special thanks to Heather, Nathan and Chaplain Steve from Hospice Compassus and all the nursing and aid staff, both past and present, at Ridgecrest, where Elaine resided for the past four years, for their kind and compassionate care.
