Nathaniel was the youngest of 16 children born to Daniel Warner & Mary Whitting of Hatfield Massachusetts. First mention of Nathaniel on Long Island is in the Southold Town records, when he witnessed two deeds on February 10, 1713 – 1714, and a quick claim on February 14. According to Prime's history of Long Island, Nathaniel Warner who was a master builder was commissioned to build Mattituck's first meeting house. So it may be that Nathaniel had been called here as a master craftsman as were other specialist.

The salmon records note the marriage of Nathaniel to Deborah Reeve of Mattituck in 1719. This followed his first land purchase. She was the daughter of Hon. James Reeve Esq. who gave the land for the meeting house. Deborah was only 17 ½ and Nathaniel was 28. As newlyweds, they were well endowed with more than one house, one barn and a sizable tract of land.

Nathaniel and Deborah had been married fourteen months when their first child was born and died the same day. Within eleven more years, Deborah had six more children. Matriarch Deborah died at age 48 on her 31st wedding anniversary. Nathaniel remarried 13 months later to Mary weeks. She dies at age 63 only three weeks after Nathaniel's death at age 68.

Nathaniel, who was a Justice of Southold town, was buried under a large slate stone with winged angels, carved in the John Stevens shop in Newport, Rhode Island. His title Nathaniel Warner Esq. signifies the station in the community. His age at death was 68 years and 28 days gives satisfactory evidence that he indeed is the Nathaniel born October 11, 1690 in Hatfield, Massachusetts.
