Jacob was born in Province, Rheinland-Pfate, Germany. His siblings were Johann (John) Carl b. 1730, Johann (John) Paul b. 1732, one sister, who immigrated to America, four siblings who died in infancy, two brothers and one sister who stayed in Germany. In 1765, Jacob made the trip to America aboard the "Polly" with Capt Porter. They arrived and took the oath of allegiance in Philadelphia on 26 Sept 1765. His brothers John Paul and John Charles arrived 11 years earlier. Jacob married Catherine Wolfensberger in about 1766/67. She was the daughter of Johannes and Anna Margaretha (Entsmnger) Wolfensberger. Their children were Elizabeth 1768, John Jacob Jr 1770, Philip 1773, George 1776, Mary Magdelena 1784, Maria Elizabeth 1787, Sarah 1789, and Samuel 1790. Jacob lived in Heidelberg Twp., Lancaster County in 1771. He was a farmer and inn keeper at Schaefferstown, PA in 1779-1782. The tavern was known as the Gemberling Rex House. The same year he was taxed on 300 acres in Penns Twp. That property is still in the Gemberling family. He served in the Revolutionary War. In 1801 he was a contribtor for the erection of the First Lutheran and Reformed Church of Selinsgrove. Catherine died in 1810 at the age of 70 and Jacob in 1824
