He married Robertina McDonald February 10, 1897. Tina, as she was always called was born in Lancashire, England of Scottish desent October 14, 1878. Her father passed away after her birth, then she and her mother moved to Dundee, Scotland. At the age of three she came with her mother to New Jersey. In 1883 she and two small cousins accompained their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William McGlashan, to Dakota Territory and they homesteades in Douglas Township. The McGlashans were truly endowed with fortitude and the pioneer spirit to bring three small granddaughters to the prairies to seek a new life, but they proved it could be done.

Before her marriage our mother was an employee at the McGlinchy Hotel in 1896. She received her room and boards and 75 cents a week for long days of work. the Senior Citizens' Center now occupies the place where the hotel was located.

The early pioneers found extra money hard to come by. Many milked cows, churned butter in barrel churns, packed the butter in wooden tubs and hauled it by team and wagon to Highmore in the very early dawn to catch the train bound for eastern markets. They received the unbelievalbe price of a nickel a pound. The women were usually the one involved in this project. At least our Mother was.

Our Mother was a true homemaker and a wonderful cook.

MRS. CARL SUNDING

Mrs. Carl A. Sunding, a resident of Hyde County for sixty-five years, passed away at her home in Highmore December 14, 1948.

Robertina Falconer macDonald was born in Lancashire, England, October 14, 1878. Her father died there the same year, and she with her mother moved to Dundee, Scotland. At the age of three she came with her mother and grandparents to Patterson, New Jersey. Two years later she came to Dakota Territory with her grandparents and they homesteaded in what is now Douglas Township, Hyde County.

Here she grew to young womanhood and passed through the trials and hardships of those pioneer days, often having to twist hay to keep the home warm. She received her education in the elementary schools of the township.

On February 10, 1897 she was united in marriage to Carl A., Sunding, who preceded her in death seven years ago. Mr. Sunding had filed on a claim, also in Douglas Township, in 1894. Here the young couple settled. They found the going hard, but both endowed with an abundance of perseverance, they labored together as one to build a home for themselves and family. The Lord blessed their union with four children, one boy dying in infancy.

Mrs. Sunding was a woman of sterling character and was well liked. At an early age she became a member of the Congregational Church. Her well worn Bible is silent testimony of her faith.

In 1945 she moved to Highmore where life might be just a bit easier. On Tuesday morning, Dec. 14, 1948 Mrs. Sunding passed away very suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage, at the age of 70 years and 2 months.

She is survived by two sons, Donald and Glenn; one daughter, Mrs. Henry Christensen; three grandchildren, Marvin and Gene Sunding and Marilyn Christensen, all of Highmore; one brother, Alex; a sister, Jessie, both of California, besides other relatives and freinds.

She always learned to watch for us;
Anxious if we were late;
In winter by the window,
In summer by the gate.
And though we mocked her tenderly.
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem more safe,
Because she waited there.
Her thoughts were so full of us,
She never could forget;
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.
Watching till we come home to her,
Anxioux if we are late;
Watching fromn Heaven's window,
Leaning from Heaven's fate.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tina Sunding were held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Methodist Church. Music was furnished by Saphus Odegaard, Thelma Christensen, Mavis Anderson and Elmer Jensen, with Bertha Christensen as pianist. Rev. R. M. Walker conducted the services, and burial was made in the Highmore cemetery beside her husband.

Pall bearers were Floyd Cambell, Oscar Anderson, Robert Funderson, Charles Gunderson, Clarence Sunding & Daniel Sunding.
