WEEKES HELEN Retired educator and community volunteer, wife of George Edward Weekes, Jr., died May 17 at the age of 84. She taught for more than 20 years at the Longwood and Winton Grove Kindergartens and served on the board of directors for Project Legacy, an organization that supported Hayward's Weekes Library. The library was named for her husband, the principal of Hayward's Mt. Eden and Tennyson high schools. Mrs. Weekes also served as a board member for the St. Rose Hospital and the Tamarack Children's Hospital. She was a participating member at All Saints Parish in Hayward for almost 50 years and was the first woman to play on the U.C. Berkeley tennis team. She was the women's state tennis champion in 1938 and 1939. Mrs. Weekes is preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Mary Mealey. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Mealey, her brother, Tom Mealey and his wife, Mary, her sons, Rusty Weekes, Tom Weekes and wife, Janet and Terry Weekes and wife, Lisa, her daughters, Margaret Reynolds and husband, Chris, Mary Ann Mobley and husband, William and Monica Weekes and husband, Rob Honaker and her eleven grandchildren. A Vigil service for Mrs. Weekes will be held at Sorensen Bros. Mortuary at 1140 B St., Hayward on Tuesday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at All Saints Church on Wednesday, May 21 at 9:15 a.m. Memorial donations may be sent to Project Legacy, Hayward Public Library, 835 C St., Hayward, CA 94541. Donations may also be sent to the St. Rose Hospital Foundation at 27200 Calaroga Ave., Hayward, CA 94545.
