2006 obituary. GUILFORD, George W. "Skip" Fairfield III, 60, died March 24, 2006, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born August 24, 1945, in Skowhegan, son of George and Beverly (Albert) Fairfield Jr. He attended Bucksport schools, Maine Maritime Academy, and graduated from Southern Illinois University. He served in the U.S. Navy for over 25 years, retiring as a Chief Journalist. Skip taught at Greenville High School for the past 5 years. He is survived by his wife, Cinda (Boynton) Fairfield of Guilford; a son, George W. Fairfield IV and his wife Samantha of Hawaii; 2 daughters, Melissa Fairfield of Hancock, and Tammy Light and her husband, Michael of Corea; a stepdaughter, Melanie Day and her husband, Robert of St. Albans; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Robin Fairfield and his wife, Marjorie of California. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak Street in Guilford. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home in Guilford at 2:00 PM on Thursday. Burial will be in the Maine Memorial Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta later in the spring.
