FORT ASHBY,WEST VIRGINIA -- Irene Elizabeth Abe, 87, of Dawn View Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Ridgeley, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born May 14, 1909, in Ridgeley, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Anna (Miller) Valentine. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Abe.

Mrs. Abe was retired from the dietary department at Memorial Hospital. She was Protestant by faith, and a member of the Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are three daughters, Eleanor Abbott, Glen Burnie, Md., Jeanetta Lloyd and husband David, Brocklin Park, Md., and Nedra Ruckman, Killeen, Texas; three sons, Ronald Abe and wife Betty, Beans Cove, Pa., Richard Abe and wife Carol, Fort Ashby, and Walter Abe and wife Donna, Ridgeley; one brother, Charles Valentine, Short Gap; two sisters, Gladys Long, Beans Cove, Pa., and Ethel Shertzer, Lancaster, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Oscar Ohler officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
