"My grandparents, Lulian and Opal (O'Dell) McAfee were members of Rock Falls church for decades. In grandma's papers was a copy of "100 year History of Rock Falls Baptist Church", "revised by Carole Keller." It's a copy of a 5-page typewritten history, apparently handed out to the congregation during their 100 year celebration in 1977. In this history is the following about the cemetery:
"Brother Thurman also gave land across the creek on top of the hill for a cemetery. As of this date, their (sic) is some doubt as to who is buried in this spot, but many do seem to agree there are graves, those of infants who probably died in the late 1800s. To the best of our knowledge there was the infant of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Blaine, two infants of Mr. and Mrs. George Slaughter, the infant of Mr. and Mrs. Cab Clark, and the infant of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Williams. The deed for the cemetery is recorded in the county court house in Richmond."
Brother Thurman was Frank Thurman, who also gave the land on which the first Rock Falls church was built. Mr. and Mrs. Cab Clark were Elijah Calvin and Sarah Jane (Rowland) Clark - my grandma's Uncle Cab. Dad took us up there in the 70's, and my cousin and I hiked back up there about three summers ago. We got a lot of ticks for our trouble! lol!"
