NEW CASTLE--Joan "Joanie" Brumfiel, 77, arrived at her Heavenly home on Christmas Eve 2005.

The eldest daughter of the late Vernon L. and Echo (Harris) Wainscott, arrived in this world on July 14, 1928 in Butler County, Kansas.

A 1946 graduate of New Castle High School, she lived and worked most her life in Henry County, where she worked as a telephone operator for Indiana Bell, and was a bookkeeper for Henry County Office Supply, World Bestos, Joe Jackson Siding, and Paul's Oil Company in Knightstown.

She enjoyed meeting with Ma Belle's, a group of retirees. She had attended the Broad Street Alliance Church and was presently attending Westview Church of the Nazarene.

Joanie is survived by her husband, Clarence Brumfiel of New Castle; two sons, Mickey (wife-Carol) Wilt and Larry (wife-Cindy) Wilt; a granddaughter; a sister, Jill (husband-Joseph) Burris; three stepsons, Raymond (wife-Sandi) Brumfiel, Barney (wife-Dixie) Brumfiel, and Andy (wife-Vicki) Brumfiel; six stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Aunt Joanie is mourned by nine living nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews, and one great-great-niece, who is much too young to understand why we grown ups can be so sad during a season that we hope for peace on earth and goodwill toward men. Joanie's legacy includes love, smiles, fond memories, and a recipe for cinnamon pudding.

In addition to her parents, Joanie was preceded in death by her first husband, Homer K. Wilt, Jr., and two nieces.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Westview Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend Paul Riddle, Rev. Frank Voss, and Rev. Norwood Kruezinger officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
