DR. ALBIN BERGSTROM BURIED HERE
Dr. Albin C. Bergstrom, 84, of Missouri Valley died Thursday, Oct. 6, after a lengthy illness.
The son of Edwin and Anna Bergstrom, he was born Dec. 26, 1903, and was graduated from Griswold High School in 1921. He attended Iowa State College at Ames and received his medical training at the University of iowa at Iowa City. Dr. Bergstrom had a year of internship and a year of surgical residency at Harper HOspital, Detroit, Mich., and moved to Missouri Valley in 1931. He attended the Congress of Hemotology in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1964. Dr. Bergstrom retired in 1974. He was instrumental in the founding and promothing the welfare of the Missouri Valley Community Hospital.
Dr. Bergstrom was married June 2, 1928, to Mable Mathis at Griswold. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Iowa State Medical Association, American Medical Association, Iowa State Academy of Family Practice, Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge No. 232 and American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Dr. Wayne Bergstrom of Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Judy Bergstrom of Missouri Valley; two grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild; three sisters, Ethel Brunk of Prairie City, Ellen Brunk of Griswold and Ebba Bates of Oakland, and a brother, Delmar Bergstrom of Griswold.
he was preceded in death by a brother, Gus.
Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley. Interment was in Whipple Cemetery, Northwest of Griswold. Masonic service was held Sunday night at Hennessey-VanCleave-Hurley Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.
