Mr. Charles Everett Duffie, 76, of Ocean Springs, died Friday, September 23, 2005 in Biloxi, MS. Mr. Duffie was born June 13, 1929, in Ocean Springs, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Duffie. Charles graduated Notre Dame High School in 1946. Charles attended Perkinston Junior College in 1948. He transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated in 1952 with an ABM. Charlie married Christine Wieht on May 26, 1952. He later earned an AA in 1974, and an AAA in 1990. Charles was honorably discharged from the Army after his service from 1952 to 1954. Among some of his other responsibilities, Charles taught piano at Ocean Springs High. He also taught English and math at St. Martin High from 1955 to 1961. Charlie worked in the Boy Scouts of America organization from 1961 to 1967. He taught at St. Martin High School from 1969 to April 1970. He then became Junior and Senior High principal in March of 1970. Charlie became the St. Martin Senior High Principal in 1976. Charlie later taught at Hancock High School from 1989 to 1991. Having served as captain of the USM tennis team in his college years, Charlie was affectionately known as one of the top tennis players and tennis coaches on the coast. Charlie was also known as a generous person, freely donating his time and assets to charitable organizations. Charlie was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Charlie was also a primary founder of the 1st annual Elks walk-a-thon. Charlie was very active in the Elks, having received numerous awards, and having been selected as Elk of the Year in 2004. Charlie was also a founder of the Ocean Springs Lodge #2501 and served in the capacity of their exalted ruler. Charlie was also a member of Biloxi Elks Lodge #606 and served as their exalted ruler as well as the district deputy grand exalted ruler of Mississippi South. Charlie was state secretary of Elks for a number of years.

Mr. Duffie was preceded in death by his parents, Emily Marie Ryan and Joseph James Duffie; his wife, Christine Duffie; and his brother, Joe Duffie.

Mr. Duffie is survived by numerous family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic church, where friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial to follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
