James Perry was the son of Reuben and Mary "Polly" Long Francis. At age 23, he enlisted in Company H, 34th NC Infantry regiment and served for the Confederacy.

James Perry Francis first wife was Caroline "Cinith" Scoggins. They were married Dec. 20, 1860. She died in 7 Oct 1869. His second marriage was Feb. 3, 1870 to Roxanna Louisa Digh

Son, John Lewis Francis compiled names and birth/death of all children of James Perry Francis in 1891 (see below).

After the death of "Cinith" (as listed on John Lewis paper)in Oct 1869, James Perry was left with several small children. He soon married Roxanna Louisa Digh Feb. 3, 1870 and they had 12 children. She was the daughter of John "Whit" Whitson Digh.
