Timothy D. "Tim" McDonald, age 52, of Sauk Centre died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at his home surrounded by family following a five year battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Miesville, Minnesota. The Rev. Jay Kythe will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow at the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. A second visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30th from 4-8 p.m. at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home in Hastings, Minnesota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Timothy Dale McDonald was born on July 4, 1958 in St. Paul to Dale and Mary Ann (Engel) McDonald. He married JoAnne King on February 5, 1977 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier, Minnesota. In life, Tim was an outstanding husband, father, friend, leader, soldier and fisherman. He was larger than life. He always provided for his family, cared for others, helped those in need and protected the weak. Tim enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed loving and laughing with his grandkids and teaching them how to fish, saying countless times "Today looks like a great day to go fishing". Tim loved to see people smile and watching the innocence of his grandchildren.

Tim was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and American Legion Post 67.

Tim is survived by his wife, JoAnne of Sauk Centre; children, Thomas McDonald of Newport, Dale McDonald of Newport, and Jaci (Greg) Van Schoonhoven of St. Paul Park; five grandchildren, Duncan, Katelyn, Aryana, Gage, and Cameron; parents, Dale and Mary Ann McDonald of Sauk Centre; sisters and brother, Dorothy (Ernest) Bauer of Sauk Centre, Susan (Jeff) Tschida of Sauk Centre, Dan (Diane) McDonald of Watertown, Minnesota, and Cathy (Mike) Lensing of Grey Eagle; and father and mother in-law, Bill and Theresa King of Hastings.

Tim was preceded in death by his son, Kevin McDonald on February 14, 1990.

Serving as casket bearers will be CW2 Joel Ritter, SFC (Ret) Norbert Reinardy, SGM (Ret. Dave Crotteau, MSG Joseph Tschida, SFC (Ret.) Kevin Jorgenson, and SSG (Ret.) Dave Tveter. Serving as cross bearer will be Duncan McDonald and serving as scripture bearer will be Aryana McDonald. Honorary bearers will be Ryan Bauer, Pat King, Tony Beletti, Michael Lieser, Matt McDonald and Nathan McDonald. Gift bearers will be his godchildren Rachel Bauer, Nathan McDonald, and Michael Lieser.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
