Darrell Duane 'Pete' Peterson

Darrell Duane Peterson was born July 26th, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Arthur Leonard and Victoria Hedvig Gustafson. He was graduated from Topeka High School in 1948 and attended North Park College in Chicago for two years. He later attended Washburn University. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 including service in Korea during the Korean War. He was discharged at the rank of Sargeant on June 15th, 1954.

He married his first wife Jean in 1947 and had an adopted son from that marriage. They were divorced February 28, 1962 in Los Angeles, California. He married Rachel Rebecca Garcia of Los Angeles on November 13th, 1964 at the Lorelei Chapel in Montebello, California. Rachel had two children from a previous marriage that ended in the death of her first husband from pnuemonia. Pete worked for various collectable pin manufacuters including Ooh La La where he was Vice-President in charge of sales and marketing when the company produced the collectable pins for the 1982 Summer Olympic Games. In 1983 Pete and his wife Rachel moved to San Diego, California, where he started Peter David Inc. to manufacture and distribute collectable sports pins. Rachel continued to operate Peter David Inc. after Pete's death until 1991 when she sold the business to her son Arthur.

Darrell Duane Peterson died of cancer on Monday, September 22nd, 1986 at his home in Chula Vista, California. He was cremated and the remains entombed at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery, Point Loma, San Diego, California.
