Mary Ellen Caruthers Tanner is the daughter of Richard Alexander and Maude Ellen Francis Caruthers and the grand daughter of Thomas George / Mary Elizabeth Price Caruthers and the great grand daughter of Rev. Richard Alexander/ Nancy Cook Caruthers of Kill Creek, Osborne Co., Kansas. She had 9 brothers and one sister, Thomas Richard, Kenneth (Died in infancy), Roland, Merle Monroe, Elwyn E., Robert Ross, Fay F. (Died in infancy -twin), Ray Andrew (twin), Dick Alexander and sister Francis Mae Caruthers Monroe.
She Married Albert Eugene Tanner 4 November 1925 in Osborne Co. Kansas. After a 12 yr stay in Cushing Oklahoma they returned to Waldo where Albert passed away on August 27, 1958. Mary was a telephone operator in Waldo for many years before failing health caused her to retire.
She raised a step daughter, Mayrea Evelyn Tanner and helped take care of her mother Maude in her later years.
Mary was a member of the Waldo Methodist Church. Her life exemplified Christian sprit though out her long illness and beyond.
