Robert Hilliard (Bob) Parnell
Lost his valiant battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.
Bob was born May 24, 1934 in Jackson, Mississippi, the only son ofHiUiard Sloan and Jewell Bryant Parnell.
He grew up in Jackson, attending public schools where he was active in varsity athletics and ROTC. He received the Bachelor of Science in Geology from Millsaps College, and Master of Science in Geology from Mississippi State University. Bob was a member of Kappa Sigma social fraternity and Sigma Gamma Epsilon honorary scholastic fraternity. He served his country in the Mississippi National Guard and the United States Marine Corps. He retired as Director of Security for Occidental Oil and Gas Corporation/Tulsa, in 1996.
Earlier in his life he was a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and remained an active member of The Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, Inc. serving as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Historian of the Tulsa Chapter.
He was a longtime member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church and served as usher and administrative board member. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. One, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and served on their Honor Guard. Bob is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 30 years, Diane; two daughters, Jennifer Martin, and Lisa Donaldson and husband Ron Donaldson; and three grandchildren, Alex Martin, Haley Martin and Will Martin; all of Tulsa. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Tigger. Special appreciation goes to Bob's nurses Rachael, Tiffany and Lisa with Sojourn Care Hospice for their loving and compassionate care, and for the love and support of our great neighbors and friends. We could not have made this journey without you! In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to American Legion, Post One, 1120 East 8th Street, Tulsa, OK 74120 (918-584-4274).
