Donald M. Lee, age 57, rural Carpio, died Monday, April 4th in a Minot hospital. HIS funeral was held Friday at 11 a.m. in Carpio Lutheran Church, with burial in Nazareth Cemetery, rural Carpio. Officiating for the service was Rev. Richard Spiedel with Mrs. Joyce Peterson playing the organ. Special music was provided by Mr. Gary Moe. Casketbearers included LeRoy Limke, Darrel Block, Bruce Helseth, Orville Schultz, Larry Thompson, Virgil Borman, Melvin Score and Steve Eide.
He was born Feb. 17, 1931, in rural Mohall, to Ole and Olga Lee. He was reared in Plain Township, Renville County, rural Carpio. On Jan. 29, 1951, he entered the Army and served in the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was discharged as a sergeant Jan. 29, 1954. He returned to Carpio and started working for Carpio Standard Oil Bulk Co. He later moved to Burlington where he was employed by the Ward County Highway Department and then to Coteau where he worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Lostwood Refuge. In 1963 he began farming in Plain Township, rural Carpio, and had farmed there since. He was once married to Dorothy Score.
He was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church, the Plains Township Board and had served on the Renville County Soil Conservation Board.
Survivors include father, Ole J. Lee, Carpio; son, Dan A., Bakersfield, CA; daughters, Jackie Smith, Minot, Donna Lee and Janelle Lee, both Broomfield, CO; two grandchildren; sisters, Viola Herzberg, Salton Sea Beach, CA, Shirley Moe, Minot; brothers, Robert E., Richland, WA, Larry J., Mount Vernon, WA, and Alan 0., Billings, MT.
