Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Color Sergeant in the Union Army in Company A, 136th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on December 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg, Virginia. He citation reads "Took up the colors as they fell out of the hands of the woundeed color bearer and carried them forward in the charge."
