He first married Helen Marsh, who predeceased him in 1981. He later married Betty J. (Atherton) Marsh, who survived.
Newell Potter was a longtime employee of Worthington Corporation in Wellsville, retiring in 1977. He enjoyed restoring cars to Street Rods.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, were two daughters, Mary (Fred) Gates of Scio, and Donna E. Dixon of Wellsville; six grandchildren, James (Mary) Kocher of Morganville, N.J., Kevin (Robin) Kocher of Fredericksburg, Va., Lynda (Ron) Bennett of Montrose, W.Va., Newell (Jen) Kocher of Phoenix, Ariz., Lynn (Connie) Dixon of Wellsville, and Helen (Joel) Evans of Angelica; several deeply-loved great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Lynn T. (Erna) Davis of Winter Haven, Fla.; and a special friend, James Kocher Sr. of Ulysses, Pa.
