The Funeral of Captain Desmond
Cincinnati, April 1. Five thousand persons attended the funeral of Captaln Desmond from the Catholic cathedral at 10 o'clock this morning. Captain Desmond was shot through the head Saturday night while in command of his company, He was a popular young lawyer. His commander gave him a soldier's burial. The officiating priests scarcely alluded to the riot and blamed neither soldiers nor crowd.

The funeral of Captain John J. Desmond, Ohio militia, killed in Saturday night's riot, took place to-day from the Cathedral. A detail of troops attended and a deep feeling of sorrow prevailed. The exact number ot dead and wounded will probably never be ascertained on account of many of tbe wounded being carried away by their friends. But the number of those killed outright or dying at the hospital up to mldnight last night ls forty-one, as shown by the records ot the undertakers and the hospital....
