MRS. GEORGE W. ADAMS DEAD
Funeral For Prominent Rutledge Lady Held at Memphis Tuesday.
—Mrs. George W. Adams, a native Knox Countian who during her married life of more than fifty years lived on the old Adams homestead near Rutledge, died there at 8 0'clock Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Adams celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary there last June. She had been in ill health for eight or nine months.
—Mrs. Adams was born May 1, 1872, being 70 years old, and lived in the county all her life. Before marriage she was Lillie May Chapman, and became the wife of Mr. Adams Feb. 1, 1891. The couple had no children. She is survived by her husband and one half-brother, William Erwin, of Gorin.
—Mrs. Adams was a charter member of the Rutledge Eastern Star Chapter, ans was its first worthy matron. She was a member of the Christian Church of Rutledge.
—Mr. and Mrs. Adams have taken pride in maintaining a fine country home, largely as it was in days of old, with modern improvements, however. The farm has a considerable amount of original rail fence, kept in good repair. The outbuildings are covered with clapboards rived from timber by Mr. Adams' own hands, and the old barn erected by his father from native timbers and put together without a single bolt or nail is still well preserved.
—Funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Gerth & Baskett's funeral home at Memphis, with services conducted by the Rev. A. B. Billman, pastor of the Chirstian Church. Burial was in the Memphis cemetery.
