Charles Ambrose "Charlie" Nolan was a native of Surprise Valley, born in Eagleville Apr. 27, 1905 to Frank and Celia Murphy Nolan. His entire life was spent in the Eagleville area. He owned various ranches in the area, including the Bare Ranch for several years.
He married Allie Neasham July 5, 1927 in Carson City, Nev. Charlie ranched in the Surprise Valley area for over 60 years.
After semi-retiring in 1987 they left the active ranch work and moved into Eagleville where they made their home until Charlie's illness forced him to become a patient in the Surprise Valley Community Hospital in Cedarville.
He is survived by his wife, Allie of Eaglevill; two daughters Margie Haviland of Buhl, Idaho and Joyce Werner of Eagleville; two sisters, Gertrude Grove of Red Bluff and Edna Nolan of Cedarville; a brother Frank Nolan, Jr. of Acampo, Ca.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Services conducted by Rev. Ben Zandstra were held in the Eagleville Church Aug. 11, with interment in the Eagleville Cemetery.
The family would appreciate any donations made to the Surprise Valley Hospital or the Eagleville Community Church.
