Charles Dammann, well-known west side resident and one of the eldest men in the city, died this morning at his home. He would have been 91 years old April 5. Mr. Dammann, while he had been in failing health for some time, died quite suddenly. Last night he retired in good spirits and his death this morning shortly before 8 o'clock, came as a great shock. He died peacefully. His home was at 501 West Main street.

Mr. Dammann was a native of Germany. He came to the United States with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Dammann, when he was eight years of age. The family settled here. This had been his home most of his life, although for some years he engaged in farming in the town of Watertown and also in Iowa. He was married 65 years ago to Augusta Geilenfeld. She survives as do eight children, Mrs. A. W. Abraham, Wessington Springs, S. Dak.; Charles, Butterfield, Ark.; Fred, Minnesota; Mrs. Emma Swankler, Ranier, Minn.; Mrs. T. C. Griffen, Bremerton, Wash,; Mrs. Walter Bellamy, Saskatchewan, Canada; August, Wessington Springs, S. Dak, and Mrs. Lena Henning his city. There are a large number of grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Mr. Dammann was the last member of his immediate family. He took a great interest in his garden, even in recent years when men much younger than he were inactive. He was widely known in the community.
