William Carleton King, youngest child of Henry Franklin King and Elfreeda Carter King, was born 28 July 1905 in Starrville, Smith Co., TX. He received his education in the Starrville and the Winona schools and learned to farm by working for his father. He married Jewell Freeman on 19 September 1926 in Gregg Co., TX. Carleton King was a tinkerer, mechanic and blacksmith but made his living as a Starrville school bus driver and as a farmer before joining the United States Post Office at Camp Fannin in 1943. He later transferred to the main post office in Tyler and retired in 1968. Like his mother and her parents, he was a Methodist. He died in Tyler, TX 18 July 1974.
