James Flournoy Rigney, Sr.
James Flournoy Rigney, Sr., 78, of 700 Ridgecrest Drive, Danville, VA died Sunday, June 26, 2011 in Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born April 7, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late David Flournoy "Flynn" Rigney and the late Mary Louise Farthing Rigney. He was married to Lottie Musser Rigney who preceded him in death January 28, 2011.
James was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, and a member of the Mt. Hermon Volunteer Fire Dept. He graduated from Whitmell Farm Life School and attended Danville Technical Institute. He worked at Dan River Mills and also was a farmer. His farm life extended far beyond his family as he instilled strong work ethics in many young people that helped him over the years. The family would like for any of those who worked for their Dad and are able to come to the funeral services to sit together as a tribute to him and his family.
He is survived by a daughter, Perdita Diane Reynolds; a son, James Flournoy "Jimmy" Rigney and wife, Patty; his sisters, Patsye R. Chism and husband, Bobby and Shirley R. Ferguson and husband, Ray, his brother, William D. "Bill" Rigney and wife, Mary all of Danville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, James "Jay" R. Rigney and wife, Kristin, Katherine "Katie" R. Rohrig and husband, Will, Brittney R. Rudd and husband, Adam and Harry Lea "Trey" Reynolds, III and wife, Misty, and a great-granddaughter, Nadia Leigh Rigney.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 4385 Franklin Tpke, Danville with Rev. Matt Crook officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at the church from 7:00 p.m.. to 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence, 700 Ridgecrest Drive, Danville.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Building Fund, 4385 Franklin Tpke., Danville, VA 24540 or to the Mt. Hermon Volunteer Fire Department, 4268 Franklin Tpke, Danville, VA 24540.
