Hugh served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II, formerly a Flight Engineer PBY Search and Recovery Aircraft capacities.
He made many sacrifices for his family as he always placed them above all others. Hugh had a strong faith in the Lord, living and loving life to the fullest. He enjoyed backyard barbecues, fishing, camping, coast trips and animals of all walks of life. An extraordinary story-teller, he had a natural knack for telling jokes. A compassionate person by nature, he never met a stranger and would not turn away anyone in need. He was respected and loved by everyone who ever met him.
He married Doris Jean Cottle on May 23, 1946 and they had two daughters, Sandra Marie and Carol Jean.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Marie Cottle; brothers, Calvin "Bubba" Cottle, Darrell Cottle; sisters, Margaret Craig, Dorothy Holland, Anetta Krenek, and Melba Culp.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Jean Cottle; daughter, Carol Dotson and husband, Bill; granddaughter, Jennifer Elaine Wiley, grandsons, Michael Trey Cottle and Shawn Dotson; great-grandchildren, Ashley Gibbs, Kierstyn Wiley and Kaija Cottle; numerous nieces and nephews; and close life-time friends, Harold, Barbara and Courtney Tiedt.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
