WILHELM FREDECK pg.165-166 (the following is condensed from original text)
"Wilhelm Fredeck and his wife, Rosalie Dahms Fredeck, left Berlin, Germany in late June or early July of 1881. Relatives recall hearing that they were 6 weeks on the water coming over. They arrived in the USA Aug 2, 1881. With them were their 3 children, Clara, Ernest and Albert, who was 3 months old.
"Rosalie had a brother living at Techumseh [Callahan Co. TX]. He was ALBERT DAHMS, who with his family, was in the Eagle Colony in 1878. It is believed the Fredeck family visited first at Tecumseh before coming to the address on Lakeside Drive [Abilene, Taylor Co. TX].
........"On Dec. 3, 1890, the Fredecks acquired 2 acres of land adjoining their acerage to the south. The land was deeded to Rosalie by M. Manniwitz and his wife, Bertha, out of gratitude for Rosalie nursing Bertha Manniwitz through a long illness. The Manniwitz lived a great distance to the NE and Rosalie walked across the pastures to help her."..... (following is a lot of information on their house etc)
... Wilhelm followed his brick laying trade outside of Abilene and often was away from home for weeks. Rosalie and the children carried on the work at home.....
.... The Fredeck children attended the Lutheran school near the old Episcopal Church and walked across country from their brick house.
.... The Fredeck family attended the Catholic Church at the corner of 5th and Beech in Abilene. The first parish was established in 1890, a few years after..[they arrived].
