She was the director of the Westark Retired Senior Volunteer Program of the Western Arkansas Counseling and Guidance Center. She was a graduate of Texas Tech University and served on the Arkansas Commission on National and Community Service. She was a member of the Fort Smith Business and Professional Women's Organization.

She is survived by her husband, John Thompson; one son, Guy Harley of Seattle; her mother, Kathleen Bryant Stephens of Sherman, Texas; two sisters, Beverly Bryant LeMaster of Dallas and Rebecca Bryant Parker of Sherman, Texas.
