A 1950 graduate of the former De La Salle Academy where he starred in three sports; football, basketball and baseball. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force and served on the USS Tarawa during the Korean War. After the war he entered Bryant College, Providence and graduated in 1957. Mr. Ahearn was a long term Financial Credit manager in Massachusetts before retiring and moving back to Newport 10 years ago. A lifelong Notre Dame fan, he was a member of the Dennis E. Collins Ancient Order of Hibernians and the V.F.W.
Besides his wife of 50 years, he leaves 2 sons, Kevin M. Ahearn of Westfield, MA, Michael W. Ahearn of Easthampton, MA; 3 grandchildren, Megan, Shane and Mariel Ahearn; 4 brothers, William Ahearn of CA, Danny Ahearn of Iowa, Timothy Ahearn and Brian Ahearn, both of Newport. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, December 19, 2005, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, RI. Visiting hours Sunday, December 18, 2005, from 2-5 p.m. in the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport. Donations may be made in his memory to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund, P.O.
