US Senator, Louisiana Governor. Served as a United States Senator from Louisiana from 1837 to 1842, and Governor of Louisiana from 1843 to 1846. Also served as a Member of the Louisiana State House of Representatives, Speaker of the Louisiana State House of Representatives, and Delegate to the Louisiana Secession Convention in 1861.
