Born April 13, 1930 in Cleveland County he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Dixon, Sr. and Selma Cabaniss Dixon. He was retired from Southern Railroad Company and served in the US Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ben Dixon and a sister, Rachel Towery.
Survivors include a son, Dwight Dixon, Jr of Concord; two daughters, Katherine E. Dixon of Myrtle Beach and Angela Lee Hendrix of Wake Forest; three brothers, Boyd Dixon and Howard Dixon both of Shelby and Roy Dixon of High Point; and two sisters, Millie Dixon of Myrtle Beach and Barbara Elmore of Lawndale.
