MILTON - Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" Bevins, 89, of Milton, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Suzanne, in the presence of her loving family on Friday afternoon, June 24, 2011.

Betty was born Oct. 6, 1921, the daughter of the late Joseph and Clarimond (Wood) Wagner.

She was educated in the Milton schools and Burlington Business College. On April 29, 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, Hiram O. Bevins in Houston, TX. Their mutual love of music brought them together and endured throughout their lives. Betty's life was filled with much joy and appreciation of times with her family, her love of music, and the beauty of all aspects of God's creation. Betty will always be remembered for her loving and caring ways to all whose lives she touched, for her positive, cheerful attitude, her generous and giving spirit, and for her deep love for her family.

On Dec. 28, 1997, her loving husband, Hiram, passed away following 55 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, Betty was predeceased by her parents; her stepmother, Bernice Wagner; her brother, Paul Wagner; her sisters, Marion Dudley and Lois Rouse; and son-in-law, Robert Jolley.

Her memory lives on in her children, Robert Bevins and his wife, Bette Jo, of Atlanta, Ga., Bruce Bevins and his wife, Susan, of South Burlington, Mary Ellen Jolley of St. Albans, and Suzanne Wells and her husband, Charles, of Milton; her grandchildren, Stefanie Cox, Danielle and Joshua Bevins, Nathaniel Bevins, Evan, Peter, and Colin Jolley, Chelsea Brooks, and Ethan Wells; her greatgrandchildren, DJ, Dylan and Jesse Bevins, Sarah Elizabeth, Adam, and Joseph Cox, and Piper Brooks; and her nephews and nieces, Ronnie and Annmarie Wagner, Chris and Clara Rouse, Duane and Teresa Rouse, Julie and Bruce Talley.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011, from 3 to 5 p.m. followed with a memorial service to celebrate Betty's life at 5 p.m., at the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.

A graveside service in the Milton Village Cemetery will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 2 p.m.
