Walter Frank Batker, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 1995, in Madison. He was born September 21, 1899, in Verona. He was the son of William and Wilhelmina Batker. He is survived by one sister, Alma Lacy of Fitchburg; three sons, Stanley (Mary) of LaCrosse, George (Jackie) of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, and David (Shirley) of Brooklyn; two daughters, Doris Warren of Madison, and Barbara (Jack) Jasheway of Mineral Wells, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; five brothers; and three sisters. Walter attended Andrew Henry Grade School, Verona High School and the University of Wisconsin. He worked as a Madison Streetcar Operator from 1921 to 924, and then farmed on the West Farm in Fitchburg for 33 years, retiring in Madison in 1957. He continued to be very active in farming and woodlot management. He enjoyed being with people, especially the Fitchburg Golden Agers, the Dudgeon Neighborhood Group, and the Verona Senio Citizens. He was a life-time member of St. James Lutheran Chruch in Verona. Funeral services will be held at ST. JAMES LUTHERAN CHURCH at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 1995, with the Reverend Frank Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 1995, at the JOYCE-VERONA FUNERAL HOME, 118 North Franklin Street.
