The great, good natured R. M. Stitt, now of Brainerd came to Grand Rapids Saturday night, to look over a body of timber he contemplates working this winter. His hosts of friends were glad to shake his hand once more. (Brainerd Dispatch, 03 November 1893, p. 1, c. 4)

Passes Away at His Home in
Duluth—Burial in Brainerd
R. M. Stitt, aged 65, more familiarly known to all the old time residents as "Bob", died at his home, 211 Tenth avenue east, Duluth, Tuesday night of tuberculoses. Mr. Stitt was a resident of Duluth for 22 years and was engaged in the logging business. He was, perhaps, one of the best known men in the north country.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters and a son. They are Mrs. J. G. Graham of Superior; Mrs. William Sheean of Minneapolis, and Arthur J. Stitt, aged 14.
Funeral services will be held from the home Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock under the auspices of the Elks lodge. The body will be taken to Brainerd Friday morning.—Duluth News-Tribune.
Mr. Stitt was known throughout the northwest as a lumberman of wide experience. He was the first manager of the Brainerd Lumber Co. mill in Brainerd years ago.
