FRANCIS W. PUTNAM, 74 Retired Steelworker Newport - Francis W. Putnam, 74, Syndicate Street, Newport, died Feb. 7, 1995, at the New Hampshire State Hospital, Concord. He was born July 27, 1920, in Grantham, the son of Charles and Eleanor (Welch) Putnam and has lived in the Grantham/Newport area all of his life. Mr. Putnam, who attended Newport schools, was employed as a mechanic by Chase and Avery Inc., Newport, for several years. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he had been working as a steelworker at the Joy Manufacturing Co., Claremont for 28 years. After retirement, he worked part time for LaValley Building Supply Co., Newport for three years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. He was a former member of the Newport Veterans of Foreign Wars. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Rena (Tremblay) Putnam, Newport; two sons, Allen Putnam, Rome, N.Y., and Lee Putnam, Newport; three daughters Gloria Houle, Raleigh Springs, N.C., Barbara Tenney of Florida, and Virginia Pananicolas, Wilder, Vt.; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Dolores Putnam, Newport; nieces; nephews, and cousins. Funeral services took place Feb. 10 at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. James Lundin, pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepard, Newport, the officiant. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Newport. The family has suggested that donations in his memory by made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. Avenue, Miami, Fla., 33136.
