Clytee was the second of seven children of Isaac Howard and Cora Maud [Bozarth] Buster. She married Jay Thomas Maddux on 21 August 1934, in Post, Texas. They had five children: John Howard; Myrta Clytee; Melba Janice; Jay Thomas, Jr.; and Barbara Joy Maddux.
