SIBLEY - The Graveside Service Of Herbert Fred Popejoy, 72, of rural Sibley, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cropsey Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Comfort officiating. Full military rites by the Sibley American Legion Post 244 will be accorded.
There is no visitation. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Popejoy died at 3:30 a.m. Friday (June 10, 1994) at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

He was born July 21, 1921, at Cropsey, the son of Charles H. and Lena Nolte Popejoy. He married Alberta Kathyrn Meyer on Jan. 6, 1942, at Sibley. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Roger Herbert, Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Sheryl Rae Garrett, Vandalia; and Bonita Jean Alkire, Two Rivers, Wis.; one sister, Mary Luckenbill, Muncie, Ind.; two brothers, Charles and George, both of Cropsey; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Popejoy was a lifetime area resident and had owned and operated Popejoy Garage, Cropsey, from 1947 to 1962. He farmed in the Sibley area from 1963 until his retirement in 1984.

He was also a member of the 8th Air Force unit of the U.S. Army during World War II, which served in the European Theater; and a member of the Sibley American Legion Post 244.
